It’s time to transform!
I wrote this piece originally when we were in the first months of the pandemic in 2020. However, this is relevant whenever we find ourselves at a crossroads or feeling otherwise disrupted, uprooted. When your old normal is gone, want grounds you and what inspires you to create something new?
This quarantine could become our chrysalis. As our former life, structures, and identities dissolve into a messy soup, we retain imaginal cells that hold the potential for our yet-to-be-created new life. These imaginal cells that contain all the elements of our new individual and collective lives have been within us all along. They are the essence of what we need to create new life. Into what could we transform? What would you identify as your essential, imaginal cells, your hidden potential?
I imagine my essential, elemental, imaginal cells to be the wisdom with which I entered this life along with what I picked up along the journey. We are one. The heart is the portal connecting me to all life around us. Compassion is the boat on which I travel on the river of life called love. Oneness, heart, compassion, and love can transform my thinking and when joining with you, create new ways of living together, inspire novel ideas and policies that can become the new fore fluid and adaptive structures that fashion our world. These imaginal cells can become whatever we need to guide our moving forward.
There’s no going back. Once the chrysalis forms and the caterpillar eats itself and dissolves, there is no returning to any old normal. Instead, we have the opportunity to let go of what was and create a new life and world together. Let’s emerge from this quarantine chrysalis, each having discovered and connected with our imaginal cells — our hidden potential. Then let us join together our imaginal cells to create our new world.
It’s time to dissolve, time to transform, time to fly!
